Many of us dream of having a brand-new kitchen, and all the perfect pictures of interiors on social media certainly help to feed our imaginations. Yet new kitchens can cost tens of thousands of dollars. If you want to give your kitchen a fresh new look without breaking the bank, here are some kitchen makeover hacks that can make a big impact.

Keep the Footprint

It can be easy to start imagining what your kitchen would look like if you could just knock down a wall, or extend a little bit into your outside space. But this is a sure way to instantly add thousands onto your kitchen revamp project. That’s why you should try to stick to the current footprint of your kitchen if at all possible.

Within this, try to keep all your large appliances in the same spot too. Moving things such as dishwashers, ovens and gas stoves not only creates additional costs such as plumbing and re-wiring, you will also be left with odd-shaped spaces to fill in your kitchen cabinets.

Cupboard Doors

Identifying what will stay in place is a great way to map out which parts of your kitchen you could change. Focusing on improving your cupboard doors will give you a great visual improvement, without paying unnecessary money to have all new cabinetry built and installed. After all, cupboard interiors often have nothing wrong with them. You could either have your cabinet doors replaced, or you could do some DIY to improve them. Sanding down wooden doors and re-staining or re-painting them in a fresh new color is a relatively quick and cheap win.

You may even decide to keep a few cupboard doors off to create some open shelving. This is a good way of adding texture to your kitchen, and you can add some interesting visual details to the shelves, such as cactus plants, neon signs and photographs.

Kitchen Sink

A nondescript kitchen sink fades easily into the background in many kitchens. But it can be an incredible focal point in others. Replacing your kitchen sink with one that makes a statement is an effective way of making your kitchen feel more luxurious. Sinks that make a visual impact include large farmhouse style sinks with antiquated taps. If you prefer a more modern style, copper sinks are brilliantly on-trend and can make a kitchen look incredible.

Upcycle

If you have other furniture in your room – which could be a dining table and chairs, or a drinks cabinet – consider your options for upcycling them. A piece of furniture that is old and battered, or that is not made from high quality materials, may be ideal for an upcycling project. Painting furniture in a different color is the most obvious way to upcycle, but you could also be more creative, such as making collages from old magazine cuttings in the recesses of a cupboard.

If the furniture you have doesn’t have any upcycling potential, look out for some second-hand furniture that might. Online auction websites, local community websites and charity shops may all have furniture available cheaply. This can be a fantastic way to create stunning focal pieces in your kitchen at a fraction of the price you would pay for brand new furniture.

Change the Countertop

The counter can make or break a kitchen. If yours is old, made from low quality material, or has simply seen better days, it is likely that this is a big reason why your kitchen doesn’t feel as inviting as it could. This is one part of your kitchen that is worth investing a little money in. If you can, buy a marble or high-quality wooden countertop to replace your old ones. Gorgeous counters will become a focus in your kitchen, so even if your cabinets are a little old or shabby, you won’t really notice if a stunning countertop is in place.

Light Fixtures and Fittings

The right lighting can transform any room in your home. Firstly, consider how the ceiling lights make your kitchen look. If you think new fixtures will help to bring the whole look of the kitchen up, a simple switch out for something better looking will help. LED lights come as either cool or warm lights – and in most settings, warm lights bathe your kitchen in a much better looking light. Check what you have and make another simple switch if you find you currently have cool lights.

Having different options for lighting in your kitchen is also a smart way to make your kitchen feel good, whatever your mood and whether it is morning or evening. Under cabinet lighting and plinth lighting can completely transform the look and feel of your kitchen, creating a dramatic and inviting appeal. An arc floor lamp for your dining table can also create a good-looking setting in your kitchen space.
