Brush Teeth Properly

Remember to always brush at least 2x a day — in the morning and at night. 

Gargle Using Fluoride Mouthwash 

If you’re going to add mouth washing to your daily oral care routine, keep in mind that not all mouthwashes are made equal. Go for the one that has fluoride, it does not only clean your teeth but strengthens them as well. Follow the instructions on the bottle. Use the mouthwash at least once or twice each day. It also keeps your breath smelling fresh all day. 

Regular Flossing 

After your brush and rinse with mouthwash, don’t forget to floss. Regular flossing might be one of the most typical pieces of advice from dentists, yet the one that is mostly taken for granted. Flossing will only take minutes to do, but for some, this can be a nagging chore. Flossing once or twice daily is essential to take away food particles that are stuck between your teeth, especially in areas that are hard for a toothbrush to reach. 

Cut Out or Minimize Tobacco

The negative impacts of tobacco on the lungs are recognized widely, but the effects it has on the teeth are hardly thought of. The use of tobacco, whether regularly or occasionally, can: 

  • Stain your teeth permanently
  • Cause gum disease
  • Dull your sense of smell and taste
  • Slowly heal your tooth surgery or extraction
  • Cause oral cancer

To avoid these oral issues, you need to cut out or minimize tobacco. Ending it abruptly is an unrealistic thing to do. So, even if it takes a while to completely cut it out, in the long run, it will be worth it. Your teeth and gums will become healthier in the process. 

Take More Calcium 

Calcium plays a major role in building strong bones in your body, and keeping your teeth stronger, too. Having less calcium can affect the condition of your teeth. It makes them more sensitive and weak, putting your teeth at risk for chipping or breaking. This is due to the presence of carbon dioxide, which turns into carbonic acid in your mouth. This acid can erode the enamel of your teeth, making them weak and at risk of staining and decay. 

Once this starts, the process is irreversible. However, limiting or cutting out carbonated beverages from your diet can help stop erosion from happening. 

Reduce Caffeine Consumption 

Too much consumption of caffeine can stain your teeth, and just like with carbonated drinks, it erodes your teeth as well. While cutting out coffee on the spot is not always possible, let’s be realistic by slowly reducing your caffeine consumption. Put it in moderation by taking one cup per day.
